Penthorum Chinense Pursh, belonging to the family Saxifragaceae, is a traditional medicinal herb in China. The plant possesses the function of humidity dispel and diuresis, and it can remedy jaundice, edema, and injuries. The secondary metabolic products of the plant contain flavonoids, flavones, and alkaloids showing anti-oxidation, anticancer, antitumor, and antiblebing activities. The plant has been utilized as a component of Chinese medicine Gansu grain, which has the curative effects such as declining the level of tansaminase and protecting the liver and spleen. This medicine has been used for curing chronic hepatitis B and acute virus hepatitis. Furthermore, the seedling is edible and popular in China.
